ARE WINES FROM THE LUBERON ANY GOOD?

With over a thousand years of winemaking history, the Luberon is far from new –  yet it has long lived in the shadow of its neighbours, Provence and the Rhône. Today, with a focus on sustainability and biodiversity, and vineyards producing versatile, high-quality reds, whites, and rosés, the region is confidently carving out its place.

Luberon rosés range from pale pink to vivid fuchsia, brimming with red berries, citrus and a hint of spice. Whites are crisp and refreshing – perfect as an aperitif – and the reds are bold, fruit-forward and expressive.

P’tit Wines are shaped by this exceptional terroir – elegant, organic cuvées that reflect the land, the light, and the thoughtful winemaking behind them.

So, past the rolled pebbles of the Rhône Valley and before the beaches of Provence, look to the lavender-scented mountains of Luberon and stay a while. You just might like what you find and discover the magic of P’tit Domaine.

WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR WHEN CHOOSING A WINE?

At P’tit, we believe drinking well starts with choosing well. Here’s a handful of easy tips to help you pick the right bottle – whether you’re at a village market or planning a p’tit apéro under the stars.

Don’t (Always) Go by the Price – Expensive doesn’t always mean better. While price can reflect rarity or aging potential, many beautifully made wines are refreshingly accessible – like our own cuvées at P’tit Domaine. From our crisp rosé to our expressive red, we believe great wine starts in the vineyard, not in the price tag.

Know What to Drink Now, and What to Hold – Some wines are meant to age. Others, like our bright and lively P’tit rosé and sparkling rosé, are made for drinking fresh, when their aromas and energy are at their peak. Our P’tit Red, on the other hand, develops beautifully over a few years. Drinking a wine at the right moment makes all the difference, so always check if a bottle is for now, or for later.

Pay Attention to Vintages Based on the Region – The year on the label, the vintage, tells a story of sun, rain, and harvest. Here in the Luberon, our vines are shaped by altitude, limestone soils, and wild herbs, and every vintage brings its own nuance. At P’tit, we lean into that natural variation. When buying wine, especially in France, it’s worth checking how the vintage played out in the region.

Thinking About Food and Wine Pairing – A good pairing elevates both the wine and the food. Delicate dishes love the subtlety of our rosé. Bigger flavours – think grilled meats, roasted vegetables, or aged cheeses – are perfect with our P’tit Red. But don’t feel boxed in. Some reds pair beautifully with fish. Wine should be fun – so explore, taste, and trust your palate.

And when in doubt? Pop a bottle of our sparkling rosé. It’s festive, fresh, and goes with everything from appetizers to dessert.

Look Out For ‘Small Regions’ On Old World Wines – I In places like France, the more specific the origin, the more it says about quality. Wines that name a region, village, or appellation – like our own from the Luberon – are bound by stricter standards and deeper traditions. At P’tit Domaine, our wines are certified organic and hold the AOP Luberon, made with care for the land and the people who drink them.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ORGANIC AND BIODYNAMIC WINE?

Great question – and one we love to answer at P’tit, since our wines are both organic and biodynamic.

Organic wine is made from grapes grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers. It’s about protecting the soil, the vine, and the surrounding ecosystem. At P’tit, all our wines are certified organic, meaning we meet rigorous EU standards from vineyard to bottle. Biodynamic goes a step further. It’s a holistic approach that treats the vineyard as a living organism, which takes into consideration all plants, insects and animals in its environment, whilst being guided by lunar and cosmic rhythms. We follow biodynamic principles to enhance the vitality of our soils and the health of our vines, creating a deeper connection between the land and the wine.

The result? Wines that are alive, expressive, and deeply rooted in the Luberon landscape – just like our P’tit red, rosé, and sparkling rosé.

WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF NOT HAVING ANY SULPHITES IN WINE?

At P’tit, our natural wines are made without added industrial sulphites – just grapes, wild yeasts, and a lot of care. While a small amount of sulphites occurs naturally during fermentation, many conventional vineyards use extra synthetic sulphites to stabilise and preserve their wine. By leaving those out, our wines stay alive in the glass – brighter, wilder, and closer to the vineyard they come from. It’s better for your body, and better for the body of the wine.

WHERE CAN I BUY OLIVE OIL FROM LUBERON REGION?

The Luberon is known for its high-quality olive oil. If you’re exploring the region, don’t miss tasting P’tit Olive Oil – a biodynamic, extra virgin olive oil crafted from handpicked Provencal olives from an artisan producer. It’s a true taste of the terroir.

You’ll find fresh, vibrant oils at local markets, specialty shops, and directly from the farms. If you’d like to purchase our olive oil, please reach out to the P’tit team at [email protected]

HOW TO TELL A GOOD QUALITY OLIVE OIL

P’tit Olive Oil is a perfect example of what to look for in a high-quality olive oil. Organic and crafted biodynamically in the heart of the Luberon, it’s made with care and respect for the land. Look for trusted certifications like AOP, IGP, or organic labels – these guarantee authenticity and adherence to strict standards. Freshness is key: olive oil is best enjoyed within 18 months of harvest, so always check for a harvest or bottling date. Expect a rich green-gold hue, fresh fruity or grassy aromas, and a touch of bitterness or pepper on the finish – signs of healthy antioxidants. P’tit brings it all together in one beautifully balanced bottle.

Olives like grapes come in several different varieties, each contributing unique character to the overall flavour, and like wine, individual preference should be your guide. If you like the taste, it is the right olive oil for you.

WHAT ARE THE THREE MAIN GRADES OF OLIVE OIL?

Olive oil comes in various grades, determined by how it’s extracted, the quality of the olives, and the resulting flavour profile. Each grade reflects differences in purity, acidity, and aroma.

P’tit’s olive oil qualifies as an Extra Virgin Olive Oil, which is the purest form – the first cold press of fresh olives – rich in flavour, aroma, and antioxidants. It must meet the highest chemical and sensory standards.

Virgin Olive Oil is made the same way but with slightly less stringent requirements. It tends to have a milder flavour and higher acidity.

Refined Olive Oil starts with lower-quality oils that are processed using heat or chemicals to neutralize flaws. It is often blended with a small amount of extra virgin oil to restore some taste, aroma and colour – but lacks the complexity and health benefits of higher grades.

WHICH GRADE OF OLIVE OIL IS BEST?

Extra Virgin Olive Oil, like the olive oil from P’tit, is considered the highest grade. There are standards set for extra virgin olive oil that include meeting certain chemistry ranges for quality and purity. The olive oil must past a specific taste test by a qualified panel and must be free of any defects.

WHERE CAN I BY HONEY FROM THE LUBERON REGION?

For a unique taste of Provence in the Luberon, try P’tit Honey, harvested from bees that forage among lavender, thyme, and rosemary, capturing the aromatic complexity of the region in every jar. It’s a sweet and p’tit souvenir you won’t forget.

You’ll find exceptional local honeys at farmers’ markets, specialty food shops, and directly from beekeepers. If you’d like to contact P’tit’s beekeeper, Florent to purchase our honey, please reach out to us at [email protected]

HOW DO I CHOOSE THE RIGHT HONEY?

Just like P’tit Honey, each jar is unique, shaped by the flowers visited by the bees and the season of the harvest. Its taste and colour vary according to the floral pigments and nectar sources.

For a smooth, subtle flavour, opt for a polyfloral or “all-flower” honey — a blend of various blooms. For a distinctive taste or specific health benefits, choose a monofloral honey, where one dominant pollen makes up at least 45% of the composition. Texture is also a matter of preference. Some honeys are naturally fluid, others creamy — but all crystallise over time, a natural process that varies in speed and texture depending on the floral source.

HOW TO TELL IF HONEY IS GOOD QUALITY?

There’s honey – and then there’s P’tit Honey.

Honey is one of the purest natural products, made entirely by bees. To preserve its authenticity, it’s crucial to pay attention to its origin and composition. Always check the label. Avoid jars marked “blend of EU and non-EU honeys” – these often lack traceability and may be diluted or altered. Instead, look for single-origin honeys from regions like Provence, Corsica or Occitanie, and certifications such as AOC, AOP, IGP or organic.

Honey is not something to buy in bulk, it is a product to buy with care, and as such, it can range in price, as its quality far out-values the quantity. Essentially, small, local, and transparent is the clearest path to true quality.
